CILT hosted the 22nd annual London Student Conference where over 100 people attended.
The conference held in partnership with and at the University of Greenwich welcomed students, employers and those looking to broaden their connections within the industry.
Being an all-day event, the conference was filled with networking opportunities and key industry speakers sharing new trends, upcoming technology and showcasing the variety of different sectors within the industry.
CILT Chair of the Board and Senior Transformation Director at Oracle, Vikram Singla, was the first to present discussing sustainable supply chains and the role of digitalisation.
Vikram said: “It was great to be here and great to see the energy amongst the students.”
One key message Vikram wanted people to take away from his presentation is to think of ESG as a core part of your business, stating its “integral” to how you are going to move forward.
Following up from Vikram’s presentation Jan Steenberg FCILT, Partner, Head of Europe & APAC at Tata Consultancy Services, delivered a presentation on the sustainability of procurement, discussing key sustainable development goals.
After Jan’s presentation there was a short tea and coffee break for guests to discuss topics in more detail; also granting them the opportunity to personally chat with speakers.
Next on the agenda we listened to a very interesting presentation from David Kennedy Brown Director, Corporate and Social Affairs at A.P. Moller – Maersk. David spoke of alternative sustainable fuels, fuel consumption and Mareks sustainability targets.
Students then received an insight into the digital customs world as both FCILT members Susan and Clare Morley from Morely Consulting, discussed key trends in digital customs. They highlighted The Ecosystem of Trust (EoT) pilot findings on the use of supply chain data.
To finish off, Shane Hallahan from the International Maritime Organisation gave a presentation on regulatory decarbonisation followed by Toby Giles from Grid who discussed enabling a smarter greener, safer and more sustainable last mile.
All speakers were then invited to a panel session where students and guests could ask questions on any topic discussed throughout the day.
The conference received some great feedback from students as many labelled it as interesting and as a great opportunity to keep updated with the latest trends within the industry.
