New 'Europa Flow' service to ease Brexit burdens on UK-Ireland trade

11 June 2024/Categories: Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain, Ports, Maritime & Waterways

Logistics giant, Europa Road, has announced they have launched a new service for businesses trading with the Republic of Ireland.

In 2023 according to The Office for National Statistics, British exports of goods to the Republic of Ireland amounted to £28bn in 2023.

Europa Road explained they are to extend their Delivery Duty Paid (DDP) service, Europa Flow, on all daily routes between the Republic of Ireland and Great Britain.

Over £1 million has been invested recently by Europa Worldwide Group to establish a team in Dublin, including a specialist customs brokerage service supporting the launch of this new service.

CEO of Europa Worldwide, Andrew Baxter, shared that a recent report showed that Britain is still exporting fewer goods than before Brexit with volume being almost 15% below what was recorded in 2018.

Andrew stressed that with Ireland being Britain’s fourth largest export market, the impact of transit times and increased customs paperwork could have a “costly” and “time critical” impact on businesses.

“These customs complexities pose a significant extra burden to all businesses – and particularly those SMEs who may be less likely to have the necessary resources and expertise to handle the additional paperwork. m/f2/..

“This is why we launched Europa Flow – to serve companies moving goods between Britain and Europe, providing a seamless transportation of goods between the two regions. Having initially launched Europa Flow in 2021 for mainland EU countries, the service – the first of its kind in Ireland – is now being launched to GB-Ireland trade,” said Andrew.

A Scotland-based manufacturer based in Glasgow recently trialled Europa Flow on its exports to Ireland, stating: “The new DDP service from Europa has been well received by our current Irish customers, in that the admin burden imposed on them has significantly decreased. It has also reopened some customer conversations that have been closed since Brexit occurred.”

Europa Road who operates European groupage hub, 1Hub near Dartford Crossing, now ship more than 50% of its consignments using this service.
