Human-robot teamwork drives DHL and Locus to 500M pick landmark

14 June 2024/Categories: Industry News, Logistics & Supply Chain, Operations Management

Autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) supplier, Locus Robots, has announced a milestone with DHL Supply Chain of 500 million picks accomplished using Locus' innovative LocusBot robots.

DHL described their 500 millionth pick as 'historic' when the achievement was reached on 18 May at DHL's facility in Toledo, Spain.

For DHL to reach their first 10 million picks, it took the logistics giant 2.5 years; the next 100 million picks were accomplished in just 28 months, and the last 100 million took only 154 days.

The company said that attaining this milestone exemplifies the power of human-robot collaboration and the exponential growth of the technology, with LocusBots seamlessly augmenting DHL's human workforce to deliver unparalleled performance.

Sally Miller, Chief Information Officer at DHL Supply Chain, said: "At DHL, we are relentlessly focused on driving innovation and operational excellence through our Accelerated Digitalisation strategy aimed at deploying automated solutions at scale."

Rick Faulk, CEO of Locus Robotics, added: "We are thrilled to celebrate this momentous achievement with our esteemed partner, DHL Supply Chain."

"Their unwavering commitment to innovation and their trust in our LocusBot solution have been instrumental in attaining this remarkable milestone," said Rick.

Locus Robotics said their multi-bot solution incorporates AI-driven, intelligent AMRs that operate collaboratively with human workers to improve productivity while reducing labour requirements compared to traditional fulfilment systems.

According to Locus, this technology helps solve challenges faced by companies across multiple industries, including labour shortages, inefficient processes, and the need to meet ever-increasing throughput demands.
