Logistics industry celebrates diversity at The Big Logistics Diversity Challenge 2024

25 June 2024/Categories: Industry News, Logistics & Supply Chain, Institute News

The UK's logistics and transport industry came together on 20 June 2024 at Newark Showground for The Big Logistics Diversity Challenge, an event aimed at promoting equality, diversity and inclusion within the sector.

Now in its sixth year, the challenge has grown by an impressive 40% since its launch in 2019, becoming a highly anticipated fixture in the industry calendar.

Organised by Nimble Media, the event featured a series of team-based challenges designed to showcase the benefits of diverse workforces. Participants engaged in physical, mental and skill-based tasks, including the Catwalk Challenge, Toxic Jigsaw and Human Table Football, all aimed at fostering teamwork and communication skills.

Richard Atkinson, Deputy Director of Executive Education at Aston University, opened the event as its ambassador.

Craig Tellwright, Director of Risk at Yusen Logistics, the headline sponsor, emphasised the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in driving innovation and creating a thriving workplace.

The day also featured inspiring keynote addresses from industry participants.

Tia Benaim, an apprentice from Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, shared her experience in logistics, whilst Josh Kennard from GXO highlighted the positive impact of embracing EDI in the workplace.

After a day filled with challenges and teamwork, several awards were presented. The coveted Team of the Year Award went to 'GEO Squad' from Geodis Freight Forwarding, who achieved an impressive 244 out of 260 points.

Other notable winners included Coca-Cola Europacific Partners for Best Team Name and Challenge-trg Group's 'Challenge Crusaders' for the Collaborative Teamwork Award.

The event also raised funds for Transaid through a charity tuck shop and hamper raffle, demonstrating the industry's commitment to giving back to the community.

As a supporting partner, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT UK) would like to extend their heartfelt congratulations to all participants.

Companies interested in participating in next year's event, scheduled for 19 June 2025, are encouraged to contact Nimble Media to secure their place.
