XPO introduces eco-friendly car scheme for UK colleagues

16 July 2024/Categories: Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain, Operations Management

XPO Logistics has unveiled a new Electric Vehicle (EV) and Hybrid Salary Sacrifice Scheme for its UK employees.

The programme offers staff the opportunity to lease environmentally friendly vehicles whilst benefiting from tax and National Insurance savings.

Open to permanent employees with at least six months of service, the scheme allows participants to exchange a portion of their salary for a competitively priced EV or hybrid vehicle lease.

Through a partnership with vehicle leasing company Arval, XPO said they are able to offer ‘attractive’ rates that reflect shared National Insurance savings.

Employees stand to gain significant financial benefits, with potential savings on income tax and National Insurance Contributions (NICs) dependent on their salary.

Providing an example, XPO explained that an employee earning £30,000 could save 32% on the sacrificed amount, whilst those on £55,000 could save up to 42%.

XPO emphasised that this initiative aligns with the company’s sustainability goals and in particular their commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Lynn Brown, vice president of human resources for UK and Ireland at XPO Logistics, stated: "Through this scheme, we reaffirm our commitment to employee welfare and the environment.

“We provide solutions that simultaneously benefit our team and the planet. This initiative reflects our core values of innovation, people focus, and sustainability in action at XPO Logistics."

The comprehensive package includes insurance and maintenance costs, offering employees a hassle-free driving experience.

To be eligible, staff must be at least 19 years old, have a minimum of one year's driving experience with a UK/EU licence, and meet specific driving record criteria.

XPO Logistics explained the company anticipates that this scheme will also set a new standard in employee benefits within the industry.
