DfT extends Think! cycle campaign

27 March 2014/Categories: Industry News

The Department for Transport (DfT) is to extend its successful Think! cycle safety campaign.

Officials stated the move would feature a series of outdoor posters warning motorists and cyclists to keep a look out for each other. The scheme had been trialled in Birmingham, Cambridge, Bristol, Leeds and Manchester last year.

Analysis of the campaign found almost two-thirds of drivers stated the adverts made them more aware about the presence of cyclists on the road. The new scheme will run for a total of four weeks.

Cycling minister Robert Goodwill commented: "We have some of the safest roads in the world but one cyclist's death is one too many and we are determined to make our roads safer."

Meanwhile, the government announced it has set aside over £278 million to support safer cycling, including £35 million to tackle dangerous junctions. It has also made it simpler for local authorities to introduce 20 mph speed limits in residential areas.
