Nuclear Transport Solutions Direct Rail Services (DRS) has reaffirmed its partnership with Tesco by securing a new three-and-a-half-year contract to continue providing critical rail freight services across the United Kingdom.
The renewed agreement will see DRS maintaining its established network of rail routes, connecting key distribution centres from Scotland to England.
These services include routes between:
- Daventry to Mossend
- Mossend to Teesport
- Daventry to Tilbury x 2
- Tilbury to Coatbridge
- Daventry to Wentloog
- Daventry to Teesport via Doncaster
- Mossend to Inverness
- Daventry to Manchester
Gottfried Eymer, NTS Rail Director, highlighted the significance of the ongoing collaboration. "We're very pleased to continue our long-standing work with Tesco, which has developed over the last 12 years, and demonstrates the fantastic service we provide our customers and the value rail freight can bring," he said.
The partnership underscores substantial environmental benefits, with each rail service removing approximately 40 lorries from British roads.
Eymer noted that the company recently launched Tesco's tenth rail freight service, which is estimated to save 6,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) annually.
"The environmental and socio-economic benefits of using rail are well proven and we are delighted to be working with Tesco for at least another three years," Eymer added.
The contract ensures that DRS will continue to transport over 12,000 containers monthly, providing a crucial logistics backbone that keeps supermarket shelves stocked nationwide.
Notably, rail transport emits 76 percent less carbon dioxide compared to road transportation, making it a significantly greener logistics solution.
