The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport UK (CILT(UK)) is delighted to elect Paul Salmon FCILT as the Institute’s new Defence Forum Chair.
CILT(UK) would also like to thank our outgoing Chair Christopher Markey FCILT on his service and commitment to the forum over the years.
Paul Salmon FCILT comments on his appointment as Chair:
It is both an honour and a privilege to step into the role of Chair of the CILT Defence Forum. Defence logistics has always been an essential enabler of operational success, and as we navigate an era of rapid technological advancement, global uncertainty, and environmental challenges, its importance has never been greater.
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead this forum at such a pivotal time and to work with passionate professionals dedicated to driving progress in logistics and transport.
My approach to leadership is grounded in the philosophy of servant leadership—placing the needs of others at the forefront, empowering individuals to thrive, and fostering a shared vision that inspires collaboration and innovation. The Defence Forum, at its heart, is a community. It is my goal to serve this community by building bridges, creating opportunities, and ensuring that we all move forward together with purpose and impact.
Why This Role Matters
Defence logistics operates in a world of complexity, urgency, and high stakes. Yet, it also faces many of the same challenges as the broader logistics and transport community, such as the need for sustainable supply chains, technological transformation, and workforce development. The Defence Forum provides a unique platform to connect these worlds, leveraging the expertise within defence while learning from best practices in the commercial and civilian sectors.
What excites me most about this role is the opportunity to make a tangible difference. By fostering collaboration and creating an environment where knowledge and innovation are shared freely, I believe the forum can become a driving force for change—not only in defence logistics but across the entire logistics and transport profession.
