Co-op launches new ‘Women in Leadership’ logistics apprenticeship programme

12 February 2025/Categories: Industry News, Logistics & Supply Chain, Operations Management

Co-op has launched its inaugural Women in Leadership Programme in Logistics to support the development and progression of female talent in the sector.

This Level 3 Apprenticeship programme has been developed in tandem with learning and development company Raise the Bar.

Co-op described the programme as a ‘launchpad’ for new aspiring individuals to take their first steps into Logistics leadership and management.

It may also benefit established supervisors or managers looking to progress their careers further and aims to empower and advance female leaders.

The 17-month programme involves learning resources including: virtual workshops, webinars and podcasts, with each colleague also having a Coach to further develop workplace skills and behaviours.

The programme is spilt into three core areas of self-Insight; team evolution and transformative leadership.

Claire Costello, Chief People and Inclusion Officer, Co-op, said: “Logistics has not always been seen as an industry where women can be successful.

“It is critical that we have the best people in roles where they feel fulfilled, engaged and therefore deliver for our colleagues, members and customers.

“We are focussed on removing barriers and supporting development, and proud to invest in our Women in Leadership program to encourage an inclusive environment where all colleagues can be their best-selves.”

There are 17 participants in the inaugural programme.

Juliet Mulholland, a Customer Service Manager at Co-op’s Biggleswade Depot who is part of the first cohort, explained: “I applied for the Women In Leadership apprenticeship because I'm always looking for new ways to support my personal development - it's exciting to be part of a new concept, and this called out to me as a woman with career aspirations, working in a predominantly male-centric industry.

“I'm really looking forward to connecting with others from across our logistics network, gaining insight from mentorship and ally-ship on how to be a successful leader, and gaining the skills and behaviours to better develop myself and others, which is my own personal passion.

“I'm hoping to come away from completing the course with a qualified portfolio of learning that demonstrates my own professional capability, and giving me a greater chance of working towards promotion and, advancing my career in the industry.”
