Discover what membership means to Duane and why upgrading his status marked a significant milestone in his career.

What motivated you to upgrade your CILT(UK) membership?

Upgrading my CILT membership to FCILT has been a dream to me since I joined almost ten years ago, and achieving this grade has been something that I have tried to mirror to my development as I progress along my career. By upgrading my membership to FCILT, I feel I have achieved a huge professional milestone, which gives me the professional recognition that I have worked towards. This gives credibility to my career and authenticates my experience as a senior leader.

What value have you gained, or are hoping to gain, since upgrading your membership?
I have only just upgraded my membership; however, I am wanting to grow my ever-expanding network of colleagues so that I can further my understanding of other areas of transport and logistics. I am also wishing to partake in a senior level mentorship so that I can help others attain the FCILT grade and deliver the best version of themselves whilst developing in their current roles.

My ultimate goal is to attain the position of CEO within transport, and I am hoping that being more professionally credible will support me in achieving that goal.

What does your upgraded membership mean to you?

Personally, it affirms my learning and development that I have undertaken to date and reassures me that I am still on the correct growth track.

Professionally, I am super excited to have attained this grade and feel that it grows your professional profile as FCILT is instantly recognisable as an individual who has made a significant professional difference and taken steps towards developing themselves, their understanding of the industry, and businesses that they have worked with along their career thus far.

Would you recommend a membership upgrade to others?

Yes. I feel that it signifies key stages in a leader’s career, ensuring that other professionals know that those who are wanting to grow and make a difference are not only serious about it, but are delivering on it.

What advice would you give to members considering upgrading their membership?

Do it, it has been a pleasure each time for me to upgrade, and I haven’t always got the upgrade first time! It has been something that I have had to work towards achieving with realistic goals and targets set along the way with some feedback when unsuccessful. It has helped me streamline my goals in an effort to achieve FCILT.
