Just Group invests £20 Million in M6 Toll Road

Industry News

12 August 2025/Categories: Industry News, Transport Planning

FTSE 250 retirement specialist Just Group has completed a £20 million investment in the M6 Toll Road through a refinancing deal with Midland Motorways Group. The 22-year loan represents part of the company's broader commitment to UK productive finance initiatives.

The investment will support upgrades to the motorway infrastructure, including smart motorway integration and modernised tolling systems.

Environmental improvements are also planned, with proposals to expand electric vehicle infrastructure building upon greenhouse gas emission reductions achieved since 2019.

Just Group manages over £27 billion in retirement savings, with more than £3.6 billion invested in sustainable assets as of FY 2024.

These include renewable energy projects, affordable housing, and clean transportation initiatives. During 2024, the company invested £1.8 billion in productive finance assets overall.

The deal was structured internally by Just Group's private asset origination team, following recent enhancements to their investment capabilities.

This internal capacity allowed the company to originate £1.3 billion—representing 54% of their £2.4 billion illiquid asset portfolio—during 2024.

The M6 Toll Road, operated by Midland Motorways Group, serves as a key transport link in the West Midlands region. The refinancing aims to enhance regional connectivity whilst supporting economic resilience through improved infrastructure.

Mohamed Tabi, Director of Credit and Portfolio Management at Just Group, commented: "As a UK institutional investor deploying pension capital, Just is well-positioned to finance nationally significant infrastructure that delivers long-term economic and social value.

"With a strong track record in private assets and a strategic focus on resilient UK investments, we are pleased to support the M6 Toll Road's continued development on enhancing journey reliability and reducing emissions in the West Midlands."

The investment forms part of broader trends in institutional capital flowing into UK infrastructure projects, as pension funds and insurers seek long-term returns whilst supporting transport asset development.
