TfL launches 50 new road improvement programmes

05 March 2014/Categories: Industry News

Transport for London (TfL) has announced the start of 50 new road improvement initiatives throughout the capital.

Mayor Boris Johnson earmarked £4 billion to fund the programme, said to be the largest investment in the street network for a generation. Officials stated a number of developments at 17 locations across the city have also been given the go-ahead, including at Malden Rushett, Mill Hill Circus and Purley Cross Gyratory.

Additionally, plans for the redevelopment of the northern roundabout at Elephant and Castle have been unveiled. TfL claimed the project would see the creation of 5,000 new homes and around 4,000 jobs.

Mr Johnson said: "We've been hard at work putting the bold and imaginative blueprint of the Road's Task Force into practice and we're now seeing the fruits of that labour."

Meanwhile, TfL announced the completion of work at Euston Circus. The project is expected to greatly improve safety for cyclists and was the first to be undertaken as part of the mayor's vision to improve the capital's road network.
