FTA demands air cargo receives greater recognition

04 March 2014/Categories: Industry News

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has called on the Airports Commission to greater recognise the importance of air cargo.

It argued while the authority was considering plans to increase passenger capacity in the south-east of the country, it must also take note of the important role London plays as a hub for freight traffic. The organisation also claimed additional logistical growth would not only benefit the capital, but would help the entire country improve its connectivity with overseas markets.

Chris Welsh, director of global and European policy at the FTA, commented: "We would like to emphasise that air cargo is crucially important to british businesses as importers and exporters, as is a key enabler for growth and the future success of the UK economy."

To accompany its stance, the association has written a report to raise the importance of the cargo industry. Entitled 'Sky High Value', it is scheduled to be released on March 20th.
