Singapore to introduce world’s first green fuel levy on air travel

Industry News

11 November 2025/Categories: Industry News, Aviation

Singapore is set to introduce the world’s first green-fuel levy on air travel, aimed at promoting sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and reducing carbon emissions from flights.

Passengers departing the country may face a charge of up to S$41.60 (around US$32), with lower fees for shorter flights and economy class travellers.

The levy will apply to tickets sold from 1 April for flights departing from 1 October, while transit passengers will be exempt.

Proceeds will be used to purchase SAF, derived from sustainable feedstocks such as waste oils and agricultural by-products, supporting Singapore’s target of 3–5% SAF use by 2030.

The story was reported by The Economic Times, based on Bloomberg reporting: https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/nri/visit/worlds-first-green-fuel-levy-to-add-almost-32-to-airfares/articleshow/125231929.cms
