Passengers across Britain will be able to purchase heavily discounted train tickets from 6 to 12 January 2026, as the Great
British Rail Sale makes its fourth annual appearance.
More than 3 million tickets will be available at discounted rates, with savings exceeding 50% on many advance and off-peak fares. The reduced-price tickets will be valid for travel between 13 January and 25 March 2026 on thousands of routes, with nearly all train operators in Britain participating.
Among the offers, journeys from Portsmouth to London Waterloo will be available for £10 – a 59% reduction – whilst travel from Manchester Piccadilly to Manchester Airport will cost just £1.20, down from £2.90.
The sale coincides with a freeze on rail fares, marking the first time in 30 years that fares have not increased.
Previous editions of the Rail Sale have proven popular with travellers. Last year's event saw over 1 million tickets sold, generating more than £9 million in revenue for the rail industry, with passengers saving an average of around £8 per journey.
The Rail Delivery Group noted that the sale aims to make rail travel more accessible whilst supporting local economies and providing sustainable travel options. VisitBritain highlighted the opportunity for passengers to explore cultural destinations, coastal areas and rural attractions during the sale period.
Tickets for the sale will be available to purchase throughout the week-long window, offering discounts for activities ranging from half-term breaks to weekend trips and commuting.
