The Paddle Steamer Waverley Celebrates 50 Years in Preservation – CILT(UK) Scotland Region

Delegates had the opportunity to learn about the world's last sea-going paddle steamer, Waverley, which is celebrating 50 years in preservation. Built for the old LNER to replace the 1899 Waverley that was sunk by enemy forces at Dunkirk on 29 May 1940, the vessel continues to operate today. General Manager Paul Semple provided delegates with a round-up of the season and its highlights, explaining that Waverley divides her time between Scotland and the south of England, calling at over 70 ports.

Delivered by Dr Susanna Whawell, delegates were invited to a webinar examining the cyber threats devastating UK supply chains. Through detailed analysis of three 2025 incidents—Co-op, Marks & Spencer, and Jaguar Land Rover, delegates discovered why supply chain attacks are accelerating and how these threats can be mitigated and defended against within an organisation. Key takeaways included practical strategies for implementing ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and SOC2 standards, conducting robust supplier assessments, and building cyber resilience.

Going Underground – Unusual Brick Structures – CILT(UK) South East Region

Adrian Backshall shared his collection of photographs of used and disused railway tunnels, lime kilns, wells, water cisterns, and locks still visible on the River Ouse in Sussex, followed by a Q&A session with the audience.
