The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has demanded answers on the impact the Commonwealth Games will have on the industry.

The organisation is concerned it has been kept in the dark by Glasgow 2014 (the organisers of the competition) as to what effect the event will have on transport networks in the city. This is following successful collaboration with LOCOG and Transport for London during the Olympics.

In a letter, the FTA has asked for detailed information on what roads are expected to be the most congested, how public transport will be impacted and what local traffic management will be like. It warned that a lack of forewarning on such matters could have major consequences for freight and logistics operations.

FTA's head of policy for Scotland Chris MacRae commented: "Planning is key to delivering essential food, drink and supplies not only to the event but also to the residents and businesses of the city."

This is the second time the organisation has requested clarification on the impact of the Games. Back then, Mr MacRae claimed the information did not need to be 100 per cent perfect, but some detail was better than nothing.
