Industry leaders discuss new logistics degree

15 January 2014/Categories: Industry News

Industry leaders met in London to discuss plans for a new logistics degree.

In what was described as the broadest representation of the industry in one place, members of TNT, UK Mail, the army postal service and others, came together to discuss the content of the course.

The meeting was called by the Institute of Couriers to establish what skills would be needed for the next generation of workers to gain employment in the sector. Attempting to ascertain what was required for the next generation to become industry leaders, participants took part in focus groups to outline the paths they took to find themselves in their current position.

John Bowman from Skills for Logistics said: "This is a real opportunity to create a programme that is both attractive to the brightest of students and brings confident, knowledgeable graduates into your companies."

The new honours degree in logistics will be run by the University of London Metropolitan and the course is expected to start in the autumn.
