The Department for Transport  has announced plans for a new HS2 training college.

Students will learn how to use the latest, cutting-edge technology in order to develop projects for the high-speed rail network. 

The college will offer specialised training and qualifications, including rail engineering, construction and environmental skills. It is hoped that students will not just benefit HS2, but future infrastructure projects as well. 

HS2 has been hailed as the perfect opportunity to counteract the growing trend of British engineers moving overseas, due to the lack of guaranteed work in this country.

Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin outlined the fact that HS2 was part of the government's long-term economic strategy, by creating jobs that help deliver a better infrastructure for the country. He said: "HS2 will not only help businesses expand, it will also give young people opportunities to get new skills, get a job and a career and get on in life." 

Once built, the facility will be the first incorporated further education college in over 20 years.
