Paddington station upgrade finished ahead of schedule

31 December 2013/Categories: Industry News

Planned engineering work to the Hammersmith and City side of Paddington Underground station has been completed.

According to the Transport Research Laboratory, the work has been completed sooner than originally expected and has made the station much more wheelchair-friendly.

The station now offers lifts and step-free access from the new ticket hall to the Circle and Hammersmith and City line platforms.

Gareth Powell, director of strategy and service development for London Underground, was quoted as saying that the redevelopment was great news for customers, who also benefited from huge improvements at the station as each phase of the project was finished.

Paddington station also now boasts a new entrance, concourse and the construction of extended platforms. This means that new longer, air-conditioned trains can now be used on these two lines. In addition, these new trains have dedicated spaces for wheelchairs and a low floor design, which will provide better access between the carriages and platform.
