Paddington Station improved ahead of schedule

23 December 2013/Categories: Industry News

Improvement works at Paddington Station have been completed ahead of schedule.

This is part of London Underground's (LU's) ongoing programme to improve capacity at various stations.

It now features an extended platform along the Hammersmith and City side, which allows it to cater for longer trains and more passengers. This will support additional trains on the current network, as well as services from the Crossrail project.

LU's director of strategy and service development Gareth Powell stated more than "60,000 people use the station every day and this is set to rise following the [station's] upgrade and the arrival of Crossrail in 2018", in addition to local regeneration efforts to add housing and jobs

to the area.

The body is also looking to make the LU service more accessible and, so far, has updated lifts and raised platforms to accommodate wheelchair users. New trains also feature dedicated spaces inside, as well as air conditioning.
