AirAsia X places world's largest single order

19 December 2013/Categories: Industry News

AirAsia X has ordered 25 A330-300s from Airbus, a move believed to be the world's largest single order from one airline.

The deal is worth $6 billion (£3.6 billion) and will expand the company's expected fleet deliveries to 57 carriers by 2019. This will allow the airline to offer non-stop services to Europe and one-stop flights to the US, marking rapid expansion for the Asian business.

Of course, similar to Boeing, Airbus manufactures and designs large parts of its airplanes in the UK, as the country has a strong foothold in the aviation sector.

Commenting on the order, business secretary Vince Cable said: "The growth of air travel across Asia represents an important opportunity for Britain's world leading aerospace industry and one of our most successful companies - Airbus - are seizing it."

He added the government is working with members of the aerospace industry to provide a long hyph term plan, which is supported by around £2 billion in joint investments.
