£148m for London borough transport

17 December 2013/Categories: Industry News

Boroughs in London are set to receive around £148 million in transport improvements.

Announced by the city's mayor Boris Johnson, this local implementation fund (LIP) will be distributed over the next three years.

Many of these projects will continue his push for greater cycling provisions in the capital, potentially reducing congestion, as well as other environmentally-friendly initiatives.

Mr Johnson said: "This funding, together with the investment through my roads and cycling plans, means the improvements being delivered in partnership with London's boroughs is simply unprecedented."

One of the biggest schemes supported through LIP will be a new public area and cycle routes to replace the Aldgate Gyratory, costing £6.9 million.

A green corridor, along with trees and other methods of reducing the effect of emissions will be established in Walthamstow town centre for £320,000.

As part of the LIP, Transport for London will also spend over £20 million on road maintenance and £8 million on strengthening bridges.
