Aerospace manufacturing is the largest part of 'other transport' produced in the UK, making up over three-quarters of the market's gross value added (GVA).

EEF states, citing figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), aerospace production contributed 76.8 per cent of GVA. This suggests plenty of UK aviation businesses and even international companies, such as Airbus and Boeing, already have long-established facilities in the country.

'Other transport' is the highest area of manufacturing in the UK, growing faster than any other sub-sector in the last 20 years. It includes various vehicles, as well as wheelchairs and shopping carts.

Business environment policy adviser at EEF Chris Richards said: add space "We invented the railways and spread our rolling stock engineering design principles across the globe, pioneered aircraft design with the world's first commercial jet airliner, supersonic commercial airliner and vertical take-off and landing combat aircraft."

The second biggest area was ships and boats, providing 14.7 per cent of GVA, followed by trains (4.5 per cent), military combat vehicles (two per cent), with all other categories making up the remaining two per cent.
