Stafford set to receive rail improvement project

25 November 2013/Categories: Industry News

Network Rail will be improving Staffordshire's railways as part of a £250 million improvement scheme.

The Stafford Area Improvements Programme is designed to upgrade capacity and performance along the West Coast Main Line through a number of methods. Notably, the organisation aims to remove various bottlenecks along the route.

This is being delivered by the Staffordshire Alliance, a partnership between Network Rail, Atkins, Laing O'Rourke and VolkerRail.

It will also improve line speeds, in the section between Stafford and Crewe, as well resignalling various areas around Stafford Station.

Furthermore, Network Rail will construct six new miles of track at Norton Bridge, inclusive of a flyover railway and ten new bridge or two bridge enhancements.

Project manager for the Staffordshire Alliance Matt Clark said: "Our preparatory work starts soon, which will mean traffic management measures will be put in place so work can go ahead safely and traffic can continue to flow."

Mr Clark urged residents from Norton Bridge to find out more about the project.
