Heathrow's Terminal 2 wins sustainability award

22 November 2013/Categories: Industry News

Heathrow's Terminal 2 has picked up a sustainability leader's award.

This programme aims to celebrate businesses for their progress in greener operations. The judges for this year's panel included individuals from the Environment Agency and Carbon Trust.

The facility includes an energy centre with a biomass boiler, one of the UK's biggest, which saves around 13,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. It also features water efficiency operations to cut consumption by 30 per cent.

Terminal 2's development direct John Holland-Kaye said: "We are committed to running Heathrow responsibly and will work closely with stakeholders, employees and passengers to continue to improve and build on this success across the airport."

Most recently, the airport was named 'Champion of Champions' at the International Green Apple Awards, where it topped four of the categories available - it was also praised for its driverless pod scheme, energy centre, sustainable travel and carbon reducing advancements.
