Major cuts to safety on the London Underground will put passengers at risk, the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) claims.
The union was speaking after it revealed a major announcement is set to be made at 09:00 GMT tomorrow (November 21st) about the future of the tube network.
These new measures, which will see job and service cuts, are allegedly being introduced because the Government Spending Review slashed Transport for London's annual funding by £225 million.
RMT's general secretary Bob Crow said: "The savage cuts ... will reduce the tube network to a dangerous and hollowed out shell where safety is compromised and passengers are left at risk the minute they step onto a station or a train."
The union also claims deductions will be made via the casualisation of staff, downgrading current positions and hiring more agency staff. As a result, it has sent out ballot papers to its members in the London Underground and so strikes are a possibility.
