Boeing 'selling well' at Dubai Air Show

18 November 2013/Categories: Industry News

Boeing is receiving plenty of business at the Dubai Air Show, especially for its larger 777X and 787-10 Dreamliner planes.

The event, which started yesterday (November 17th), opened to a large wave of demand for Boeing, which outperformed its rival Airbus by selling a record-breaking number of 777Xs with 259 orders and purchasing commitments.

Total sales for the show has already reached $192.3 billion (£119 billion) in sales, although this is mostly down to Dubai's local Emirates airline, which made a $100 billion order by itself - one of the largest ever in the history of civil aviation.

This involved 150 Boeing 777Xs and 50 Airbus A380s, bringing its total orders to 385 carriers. Other companies operating in the Middle East, such as Etihad Airways and FlyDubai, also made purchases to expand their fleets.

Referencing the strong start of the show, the ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum tweeted: "Our national airlines are leading a new phase in the global airline industry. We aim to be the economic centre that links the world together."

Although most of the large orders appear to be out of the way, Dubai Air Show will run until November 21st, so more news could follow.
