George Osbourne has announced the freezing of fuel tax until 2015, scrapping a planned 2p per litre increase expected for September 2014.
This price stall will nonetheless be good news to those operating in the logistics and supply chains sector, where fleets of delivery vehicles will be able to save money.
Mr Osborne said: "We don't just talk about being on the side of working people. We show it - day in, day out - in the policies we deliver."
However, the chancellor expressed this would only happen if the money is available, as the capital that will be lost through increased petrol duty has not yet been accounted for elsewhere. To this end, he also said a budget surplus would be created once the structural deficit has been dealt with.
He previously cancelled a rise in fuel duty during the March budget, when it had already been frozen for two years.
