Haynes closes distribution centre for outsourced logistics

24 September 2013/Categories: Industry News

The UK publisher Haynes is closing its distribution centre in Somerset as it looks to outsource through a third party company.

It has not yet found a logistics firm to work with - Haynes has previously operated all of its own supply chains. Sales of its car manuals fell seven per cent last year, while its overall figures decreased by 18 per cent.

Chief executive for Haynes Eric Oakey said: "The board has [determined] the book distribution market has changed significantly."

Mr Oakley said the current location "no longer meets the requirements of a modern information publishing business".

The present operations facility employs 70 people, of which the company has stated a small number may face job cuts. The restructuring process is expected to cost approximately £1.3 million - money it believes can be made back through outsourcing logistics and focusing on digital platforms.

Haynes is still looking for a new location for its headquarters.
