Parcel deliveries continue to soar

24 July 2013/Categories: Industry News

The recent upturn in the economy certainly appears to have benefited the logistics industry, as the number of parcel deliveries continues to soar.

Hermes is the latest company to report an increase in productivity and the firm has had no choice but to significantly enhance its infrastructure.

The organisation reported a 15 per cent rise in parcel delivery volumes this year and it will double the number of hubs across its network in order to cope with this demand.

It plans to open two new sites in Bradford and Tamworth, while its Warrington centre is on track to be ready by 2014.

Additional depots in Enfield, Liverpool and Bridgewater are also in the pipeline and existing facilities in Birmingham, Perth and Weybridge will be upgraded.

Hermes is by no means the only parcel specialist to notice a spike in business activity, as UK Mail recently confirmed its daily delivery volumes grew by 25 per cent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2013.
