Logistics companies could face delays when delivering goods to Birmingham in the coming months.
The Highways Agency has warned the St Chad's and Queensway tunnels will be completely closed to all traffic between July 19th and September 2nd.
Birmingham City Council is carrying out essential upgrades and the access routes will also be shut overnight for four weeks once the main work has been completed.
Frank Bird from the Highways Agency said: "We urge all motorists travelling into Birmingham city centre between July and September 2013 to check local conditions and allow extra time for their journeys."
The city is a key logistics hub because of its central location and fleet operators will be hoping that congestion is kept down to a minimum.
A recent study by TomTom showed Birmingham is only the 32nd most gridlocked city in Europe and is generally easier to travel through than Manchester, Leeds-Bradford, Nottingham and London. However, these roadworks could change that temporarily.
