We need to act now on London road improvements, CBI says

12 July 2013/Categories: Industry News

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) believes urgent action is needed to improve London's road infrastructure.

Sara Parker - a director at the organisation - said corporations think the roads are the "weak link" in the capital's transport infrastructure.

Her comments came shortly after Transport for London unveiled details of the mayor's Roads Task Force's "bold new vision", which outlined ways to make the city more accessible.

Some 90 per cent of all goods delivered in London every day are transported via the roads and the capital is renowned for its traffic jams - costing the logistics sector huge sums of money.

Ms Parker warned that London's population continues to grow and this will inevitably put greater strain on the road network.

"Looking at the way goods are delivered, managing rush hour demand, tackling pinch points, possible new river crossings and smarter use of road space should all be considered," she remarked.
