Bosses at Frankfurt Airport have confirmed that cargo traffic was up in June 2013.
Although Europe's air freight sector has been struggling of late, the aviation hub revealed that deliveries increased by 2.7 per cent when compared with the corresponding month in 2012. The facility accommodated 184,948 metric tons of cargo in total in June.
Fraport - the firm that operates the German site - announced that freight traffic across its five airports around the world grew by 1.9 per cent year-on-year throughout the month. Its other facilities include Antalya, Burgas, Varna and Lima.
Passenger numbers at Frankfurt were also higher last month, with 5.4 million people catching flights into and out of the German city - 40,000 more than in June 2012. This followed on from a record-breaking month in May, when 5.13 million passengers used the airport.
Despite attracting more than 45 million travellers in the first half of 2013, passenger traffic figures were down slightly on last year.
