Energy Saving Trust looks for greenest fleets

10 July 2013/Categories: Industry News

The Energy Saving Trust is on the lookout for the greenest transport companies in England.

It has launched its 2013 Fleet Heroes Awards, which will reward firms that are actively taking their environmental obligations seriously.

Many logistics businesses have adopted an eco-friendly ideology in recent years. This could be down to a combination of their own conscience, the raft of green regulations being introduced at EU and UK level or the fact that fuel prices have risen dramatically.

The awards were first established in 2006 with the intention of recognising enterprises that have adopted innovative schemes in order to slash their carbon emissions.

Chief executive of the Energy Saving Trust Philip Sellwood said there has been a nine per cent downturn in total greenhouse gas output from the transport sector in the past seven years.

"This year we have introduced a new Plugged-in Fleets award category to recognise organisations that have effectively introduced plug-in vehicles into their fleets," he commented.

The group will accept nominations for the awards until August 9th and the eventual winners will be announced during a prize-giving ceremony in November.
