Birmingham Airport launches advertising campaign

05 July 2013/Categories: Industry News

Birmingham Airport has put together a series of political adverts that highlight the importance of aviation to the UK's manufacturing sector.

The campaign has been launched in response to an inquiry held by the Airports Commission into the possible introduction of additional runway capacity in the south-east of England.

Bosses at Birmingham Airport have been extremely vocal in their opposition to the idea of a hub airport in London or the Thames Estuary and these adverts - which will run until July 19th - certainly reflect this.

The campaign features a number of high-profile figures from across the manufacturing industry, including managing director of MG Motor William Wang, who reiterates the point that some of Britain's most important companies are based in the Midlands, south-west and north of the country.

Chief executive of Birmingham Airport Paul Kehoe said: "These adverts make a serious point - our aviation sector is currently failing to adequately serve the majority of UK businesses that are located outside of the south-east."

The airport recently submitted ambitious expansion plans that would make it one of the largest aviation hubs in the world.
