The AA has confirmed that fuel rates have been much more stable in June, following a few months of wildly fluctuating prices.

Members of the breakdown specialist confirmed that petrol and diesel both rose by around 1p per litre in the last four weeks, which is a welcome change from the 8p to 10p swings that have been seen in the past year.

That said, prices are still stubbornly high and many logistics companies are finding it hard to cope at the moment.

AA president Edmund King feels diesel users have been getting a raw deal in particular.

"On average, the profit margin on diesel is consistently at least a penny higher than with petrol," he remarked.

Mr King urged vehicle owners to shop around for their fuel, as some forecourts are more "diesel-friendly" than others.

The haulage industry has been keeping a close eye on developments in Parliament, as chancellor George Osborne recently abandoned plans to hike fuel duty by 3p a litre this autumn after coming under pressure from campaign groups like FairFuel UK.
