Nottingham set for major rail upgrade

21 June 2013/Categories: Industry News

Nottingham's railway infrastructure is set to receive a £100 million facelift - its first significant upgrade for more than 40 years.

Network Rail has confirmed that work will begin on July 20th and is scheduled to run until August 25th.

Passengers have been urged to check the timetables well in advance so they know how services might be affected.

More than a mile of track will be laid and a number of new junctions and signals introduced as part of the work.

Route managing director for Network Rail Phil Verster said the project will improve the reliability and efficiency of services in the Nottingham area.

"Add to that the work we are doing to expand and update the station itself and we will be able to offer Nottingham the gateway to the city that it deserves," he commented.

Improving the punctuality of trains is a major priority for Network Rail, after the Office of Rail Regulation challenged the firm to ensure nine out of ten trains across the country run on time by 2019.
