Could new Forth Ports deal attract more cargo to the UK?

19 June 2013/Categories: Industry News

Forth Ports has struck a deal with the Port of Zeebrugge, which could eventually lead to increased cargo traffic in the UK.

The groups have signed a memorandum of understanding, according to Dredging Today, adding to a number of existing trade arrangements between the two.

Bosses at each organisation will now explore new ways to maximise the potential of these links and will initially focus on boosting container volumes in Zeebrugge in Belgium and Tilbury.

Forth Ports has been busy building connections with other companies in recent years and the firm is currently working on the huge London Distribution Park - which is also at the Port of Tilbury - alongside Roxhill Developments.

Commenting on the Port of Zeebrugge tie-up, chief operating officer at Forth Ports Perry Glading said it is a great chance to capitalise on the strengths of both ports.

"We offer an alternative to large deep sea vessels who need only make one call at the Belgium ports for the onward feed service to the UK," he told the news provider.
