English 'road reliability' increases slightly

14 June 2013/Categories: Industry News

The Department for Transport (DfT) has confirmed that levels of "road reliability" increased in England in April 2013.

Congestion on the nation's motorways and A roads appeared to dip slightly in the 12 months to the end of April, as 77.2 per cent of journeys were completed on time. This was a 0.1 per cent improvement on the year ending March 2013.

Overall, 81.7 per cent of people who used a Highways Agency-maintained road in April reached their destination in an acceptable time, which was up by 1.6 per cent on the corresponding month in 2012.

The DfT stressed in its report that motorways and A routes make up just two per cent of the country's roads, yet they are used by one-third of all traffic.

This highlights just how important the UK's motorway network is - especially to the logistics industry - and why it is vital that disruptions are kept down to a minimum.
