The Duke of York will officially open a new £40 million rail freight terminal at the busy Port of Felixstowe today (June 6th).
Plans are in place to eventually double the number of containers being transported through the port via train and the new development will further cement the Suffolk facility's status as one of the most important logistical hubs in Europe.
At the moment, the port operates 58 rail services to various parts of the UK.
Prince Andrew is expected to deliver a speech during the grand unveiling and entertainment - including pyrotechnics, dancers and acrobats - will also be laid on.
The Port of Felixstowe received the Best Container Terminal in Europe award at the recent Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards and this latest expansion will ensure it provides healthy competition for the London Gateway development, which is due to open later this year.
Bosses at Hutchison Ports - the company that runs the Port of Felixstowe - confirmed the new North Rail Terminal is designed to handle trains that are up to 35 wagons long.
