Boris Johnson outlines transport investment plans

05 June 2013/Categories: Industry News

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has confirmed that £40 million will be invested into important transport projects across the city.

The London Enterprise Panel (LEP) has backed a number of schemes in parts of the capital currently undergoing major regeneration work.

They include improved rail links between Tottenham Hale and the Upper Lee Valley and major road improvements in Bexley. Plans are also in place to rejuvenate parts of Ealing so the area is in a position to take advantage of the new Crossrail development.

Chair of the Transport Committee Valerie Shawcross recently warned that London's transport network could be stretched to the limit, as the capital's population is expected to rise sharply in the future. This is why new projects - such as those recommended by the LEP - are so important.

Mr Johnson said transport links are vital to the overall health of the economy.

"This money is earmarked for investment into transport schemes which have significant potential to stimulate growth and job creation," he remarked.
