New-look Gloucester station to be unveiled

10 May 2013/Categories: Industry News

Gloucester's new-look railway station is being officially unveiled by MP Richard Graham today (May 10th).

Network Rail has invested £2.9 million into the improvements, which include a new booking office, passenger shelters, footbridge and lifts.

Mr Graham has been campaigning for the upgrades since 2007 and he is delighted to finally open the facility to the public. The MP added that he is in talks with First Great Western, Network Rail and other businesses regarding further work at the station.

First Great Western regional on-train manager Martin Hardy said the firm has invested £85 million into its network of 208 stations in the past year alone.

"The work we mark today will allow even more Gloucester residents to use the station, helping us to keep people moving in these congested times," he remarked.

Network Rail is determined to significantly enhance the nation's public transport infrastructure in the coming years and has pledged to spend £37 billion on improvements by the end of the decade.
