Gatwick chiefs welcome London Assembly report

03 May 2013/Categories: Industry News

Bosses at Gatwick Airport have welcomed a report published by the London Assembly earlier this week (May 1st).

The study suggested that airports in the south-east of England are currently wasting much of their runway capacity and it is pointless expanding facilities such as Heathrow or building another hub airport while this is still the case.

In response, a representative of Gatwick Airport agreed that London does not need a "mega-hub airport".

Some industry experts are concerned that England could lose its status as a world-leading aviation hotspot, as cities in eastern Europe and the Middle East continue to expand their airports, but Gatwick officials think the UK will remain in a strong position without having to make any drastic changes.

"London is also better connected to the 23 fastest-growing economies than our EU competitors. Gatwick is already adding to this with new routes to China, Vietnam and Indonesia since independence from Heathrow," the spokesperson remarked.
