Fleet operators benefit from wholesale fuel price crash

19 April 2013/Categories: Industry News

The logistics industry is benefiting from a slump in the wholesale price of fuel.

According to the AA, another 3p is set to be taken off the average price of a litre of petrol in the next two to three weeks, providing a welcome boon for struggling fleet operators.

There has been a lot of controversy about how much companies in the UK are forced to pay to keep their vehicles running and excessively high rates at the pump led to record-low sales in February 2013.

The government has come under enormous pressure to slash fuel duty, as this is putting British companies at a distinct disadvantage against their European counterparts, who pay far less for their diesel and petrol.

AA president Edmund King thinks the wildly fluctuating prices are unfair on drivers and he believes motorists deserve more clarity on why rates go up and down so frequently.

"At least, though, the current prices are going in the right direction - giving drivers a breath of optimistic spring air," he commented.
