Cold chain logistics sector enjoys 'explosive growth'

18 April 2013/Categories: Industry News

The global cold chain logistics sector has reported "explosive growth" of late and the industry is expected to continue its impressive rise over the next few years.

A new study by research specialist IMARC Group has shown that this type of transportation will be worth $10.7 billion (£7.02 billion) by 2017 - up from its current value of $6.7 billion.

This vast improvement will be primarily driven by a sharp increase in sales of temperature sensitive healthcare products.

Medication such as insulin has to be kept cool, so cold chain hauliers have an increasingly important role to play in delivering such items around the world.

It is very encouraging to see such substantial growth in the industry and it seems that things are also looking up for standard logistics firms, particularly in the UK.

The latest Barclays Job Creation Survey showed that 69 per cent of transport companies are looking to recruit new members of staff in the next 12 months, up from just 46 per cent in 2012.
