New £1m passenger terminal opens at Land's End Airport

11 April 2013/Categories: Industry News

A new £1 million passenger terminal at Land's End Airport in Cornwall has officially opened, according to bosses at the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company (ISSC).

The organisation operates flights from Land's End to the remote islands off the south-west coast and this is its latest attempt to enhance services, BBC News reports.

ISSC recently acquired a new Twin Otter aircraft, which will be introduced later this month. This will take its overall fleet of aeroplanes to seven.

The firm has also set aside £2 million to improve the facilities on its Scillonian III ferry, which sails from Penzance to St Mary's.

"This investment has been aimed at improving the travel experience for customers, whether they are travelling by air or by sea," Jeff Marston, the company's chief executive was quoted by the broadcaster as saying.

ISSC was set up in 1920 by residents of the Isles of Scilly with the intention of providing regular travel between the islands and the mainland. Scheduled passenger flights between the two destinations were first launched in 1984.
