City College adds professional Logistics qualifications to its portfolio to meet the City’s growing demand

26 April 2013/Categories: World Press

Liverpool Community College and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) will host a Logistics information event next week for some of the region’s top employers.

The event, which will take place on Monday 29th April at the College’s £35m Learning Exchange on Roscoe Street from 8am-10am, will outline the range of CILT qualifications on offer and highlight their increasing Logistics provision in support of the SuperPort, Low Carbon and Logistics sectors in the Liverpool City Region.

Companies due to attend the event include; Peel Ports, Mersey Maritime, Great Bear Distribution and Merseytravel.

Della Thomas, Head of Client Relations, said: “The SuperPort and Logistics sectors will see rapid growth over the next decade within the City Region and it’s of vital importance that we have the skills and training required to fulfil the estimated 20,000 new jobs that will be created.

“Raising awareness of what will be required to maximise the various career opportunities available locally is what we as a College - alongside our key partners - are striving to achieve. Events like this and our continuing work with schools are helping us to raise the profile of the emerging sectors and why they’re exceptional industries to work in.”

Sector representatives from CILT, Skills for Logistics and the National Skills Academy will also be in attendance at the event. The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK – CILT (UK) - is the independent professional body for individuals associated with logistics, supply chains and all transport throughout their careers.

The employers perspective will be provided by Lynne Rumsby, MD at L Rumsby Logistics Consultancy Ltd and as Associate of the College, who will review why the right training is essential for growth.

The logistics qualifications being added to the offer at Liverpool Community College include; Level 1 Award in Logistics and Transport, Level 2 and 3 Certificates in Logistics and Transport, Level 5 Diploma in Logistics and Transport and Certificates of Professional Competence in Transport Managers in Road Haulage and Passenger Transport.
