More chaos engulfs London Bridge

15 April 2015/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Rail

Scenes of chaos once again greeted commuters trying to travel to and from London Bridge on Monday morning (April 13th).

Delays of up to 90 minutes were caused by a total of seven separate signalling failures on the lines between Deptford, New Cross and London Bridge, which exacerbated overrunning engineering works that had been planned for the weekend.

Alasdair Coates, Network Rail’s route managing director for the south-east, said: 'Many of those faults were repaired before 8am but by that point the damage was done and trains were severely delayed as a result.

'We recognise the importance of this station to London and we will do everything we can to find out what went wrong.'

In scenes reminiscent of previous disruptions at the station at the beginning of March, commuters, who can pay upwards of £6,000 per year for a season ticket, were rammed onto platforms as trains were cancelled and rescheduled.

The disruption also extended to the London Underground network, where the signalling problems caused the part suspension of the District line, delays on the Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines, and full closure of the Circle line, leading to further problems across the whole network.
