07 October 2014/Categories: CILT, Press Releases, Industry News

Richard Brown CBE FCILT, Director, HS2 Ltd, has been honoured by the presentation of the Sir Robert Lawrence Award for 2014 by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. The Sir Robert Lawrence Award is the Institute’s premier award, and is presented to an individual judged to have made a major contribution to logistics and transport over a sustained period and, in doing so, to have raised the sector’s status and recognition.

The award was presented to Richard Brown CBE FCILT in London last night. Awards were made to individuals and organisations in a total of 16 categories.

John Boulter FCILT, MD Retail, DHL Supply Chain presented the Award to Richard Brown, telling guests at the dinner of his successful career.
Richard Brown joined the rail industry in 1977 working for the British Railways Board. He progressed to Freightliner, British Rail’s container transport subsidiary, before becoming a Director of BR’s InterCity division.

He set up Midland Mainline as a subsidiary of British Rail and led the company through privatisation and sale to National Express Group. At National Express, he became Chief Executive of the Trains division which, under his leadership grew to become, at the time, the largest UK passenger franchise operator.

Richard was Chairman of the Association of Train Operating Companies in 2000 and 2001 during one of the most challenging periods for the UK rail industry. He was Chief Executive at Eurostar from August 2002 to April 2010 and Chairman until June 2013.

In 2013, he was appointed a non-executive member of the Department for Transport Board. He is also a Director of HS2 Ltd.

Richard was delighted to receive the Sir Robert Lawrence Award; he told audience members of his achievements in the UK rail industry and thanked those whom he has worked with along the way.
